Phebe’s Birthday

21 04 2009

For Phebe’s 26th birthday we decided to keep it simple as she is in the middle of exams. There will not be any studying today. This will be her first real break from school in awhile. After a nice brunch, we decided to catch the matinee of Monsters vs. Aliens in 3D playing at the SilverCity Metropolis in Metrotown. I must say that watching it in 3D made the movie much more enjoyable. I’m not sure if I can go back watching the regular version. Overall, I thought the movie was pretty funny and fun to watch. For more information about the movie, click here. After the movie, we did a little shopping at Metrotown. I wanted Phebe to shop for her shoes but I ended up getting a new pair of dress shoes for myself!

For dinner, I surprised her by going to The Keg Steakhouse in downtown Vancouver. I ordered the Top Sirloin classic dinner combination with Caesar salad, veggies, mushrooms, and a baked potato. Phebe had the Mushroom Balsamic Chicken which comes with sautéed portabella, shiitake and button mushrooms over grilled chicken with a balsamic cream sauce. Both of them tasted so good! The last time we ate out at The Keg was in Victoria a year and a half ago and we remembered being so full that our stomachs almost exploded. We made the mistake of ordering an appetizer as they also brought out complimentary bread, which is pretty filling in itself. So this time we did not order an appetizer. However, after dinner, since it was Phebe’s birthday, they brought out this piece of ice cream cake huge enough to probably feed about four people. Ok, it wasn’t that big but after eating a huge meal there was almost no room for cake. I was kind of glad it was ice cream though instead of a regular cake as it helps “fills in the cracks” if you know what I mean. By the end we were stuffed to the bone. We had finished the last drop of ice cream cake and told our waitress that we had had enough. Time to go home, loosen the ol’ belt and doze off!
