Mud Bath of Lodo El Totumo

21 08 2007

Ok, so sometimes promises are meant to be broken. I told you a few blogs ago that I wasn´t going to do another volcano during the rest of my trip. Well, this was something I couldn´t pass up. I knew that Sunday was going to be dead in the city so I decided to take a day trip to see the mud volcano of Lodo El Totumo. It actually wasn´t much of a volcano, it was basically an oversized anthill with a crater of mud on top. We brought nothing but our bathing suits and cameras to the top of the crater. We passed our cameras to the camera guy for him to take pictures of us in the mud (he must´ve had at least 20 cameras on him). I´m sure he racked in a lot cash by the end of the day with all the tips! I´m not sure how deep the mud pit was, but I couldn´t touch the ground if there was any. I could basically stand up and walk! I covered my whole face with the mud as it is said to be good for the skin. The was also a massager there who gave you a special treatment! I had to tip him of course. We were all in there for about 30 minutes when it was time to wash up. There was a lagoon nearby where these ladies helped us wash up. They told us to strip our bathing suits off in the water so we could wash all the mud off. It was quite the scene.
